Vein Disease Can Take Many Forms

Spider veins, medically known as telangiectasias, are small, dilated blood vessels that appear near the surface of the skin. Named for their web-like appearance, spider veins can be red, purple, or blue and often resemble a spider's web or tree branches. They are most commonly found on the legs and face and are a common concern for both medical and cosmetic reasons. Spider veins occur when the valves within the veins malfunction.

Varicose veins are enlarged, swollen, and twisting veins, often appearing blue or dark purple. They occur when faulty valves in the veins allow blood to flow in the wrong direction or to pool.

Edema is a medical condition characterized by an excess of watery fluid collecting in the cavities or tissues of the body. This fluid buildup can lead to swelling and puffiness, most commonly affecting the hands, arms, ankles, legs, and feet. However, it can occur in any part of the body.
